Brother Sun, Sister Moon

  • McKinley Performing Arts Center 2219 Monroe St Madison WI 53711 USA (map)

Brother Sun, Sister Moon reflects on the intertwined reverence for God and nature embodied by St. Francis of Assisi, through two recently composed works new to Madison audiences.

Slovenian composer Damijan Močnik’s"Missa Sancti Francisci Assisiensis,” lively with percussion and driving melodies, contrasts with American Daniel Elder’s 2010 "Requiem,” which, alternating between Latin and English texts, is more ethereal and contemplative. Together they embody the vitality and range of contemporary sacred music.

In addition to Festival Choir's 55-person choral ensemble, this concert features the Festival Chamber Players, a chamber orchestra of professional musicians across strings, winds, and percussion.

  • Pre-concert talk by Artistic Director Sergei Pavlov, 6:45-7:15 pm

  • Post-concert reception (ca 8:30 pm) for all audience and performers
